I used to make bowls when I was a graduate student in the late 80s. A typical bowl back then would include potato chips as a base, cheddar cheese, a Toulouse sausage, and a few brownies.
Fortunately, things improved when I met my beautiful wife Françoise who is a terrific cook and has always prepared delicious, healthy fare. However, my own 'cooking' left much to be desired and our kids and I paid the price—in terms of uninspired and often unhealthy food or, literally, in the form of take away—whenever Françoise was away.
With my Françoise travelling more and more for her important work, I decided that I needed to start cooking healthy food. However, there is only so much one can do with chicken and fish and it was not long before my daughter, Naomi, began cooking her own meals and my son, Ethan, started showing signs of chicken and broccoli fatigue.
It was at this point that Françoise suggested that I try veggie/vegan cooking, pointing out that, in addition to being something new I could try, more and more research was revealing the benefits of a plant heavy diet.
So with Françoise's encouragement, I started trying a few recipes from her collection of veggie cookbooks. I love the colours, the creativity, and the amazing smells and tastes. I have also been hugely encouraged by Ethan, a gourmet who loves all good food, and Naomi, who admitted that she likes my granola!
I will never be a 'good' cook. However, I can follow recipes and am slowly learning a thing or two. I also enjoy cooking for others, some of whom have asked for the recipes. I thought the easiest thing to do would be to create this blog. It is intended to be simple. Just recipes I really like with some photos (my own) and a few comments.
Ethan, Françoise, me, Naomi, Meg (the dog), and my niece and goddaughter Alex.
